“It was a year of cultural shock, growing pains, and beautiful moments,” he says. “Looking back, it shaped me into the person I am today.”
That jersey reminds him of more than a tournament.
“That year taught me to embrace ALL of my cultures.”
It’s a lesson that’s stayed with him ever since.
Growing Up Between Two Cultures
Growing up between Honduras and the United States taught Don to see the world through two cultures. More importantly, it gave him an open mind and a genuine curiosity about people and the different ways they experience life.
Along the way, there were moments when he questioned whether he was “Latino enough.” It wasn’t until later that he realized he didn’t have to choose one part of his identity over another.
Today, he proudly embraces every part of his story, knowing that both cultures, every experience, and every community helped shape the artist—and the person—he is today.
What Home Means to Don Ryvcko
Ask Don what “home” means, and he won’t start with a place.
He’ll talk about sitting around the dinner table with family and friends, laughing about absolutely nothing. He’ll remember the feeling of returning to Honduras after years away. But when he strips everything else away, he always comes back to the same idea.
“Home is not so much a place as it is a community that loves each other and pushes each other.”

“My parents taught me that music is amazing, but if you’re not intentionally serving others, your music will lack substance because there is nothing REAL for you to draw inspiration from.”

“When you don’t intentionally immerse yourself with real people and real cultures, there is no real inspiration.”
Finding Home in Houston
“Houston is special because I didn’t fall in love with it at first sight,” Don says. “It’s a city I’ve grown to love with time.”
Over the years, he discovered that the best parts of Houston aren’t always the ones you’ll find on a travel guide. They’re the places locals recommend because they’ve become part of their own story.

“I could care less that people remember the name Don Ryvcko,” he says. “What I truly hope people remember is who I serve. To me, there is no truer meaning to life than glorifying God with all that I say and do.”
